Composers, Arrangers, Producers & Musicians
As individuals, Richard and David have worked in the music industry for more years than they care to remember. Initially as engineer and musician respectively, they have worked with artists as diverse as Joan Armatrading, Paul McCartney, Scott Walker, Talk Talk, Hukwe Zawose, Djivan Gasparian, Seal, Clannad, Pet Shop Boys, The Pretenders, Roy Orbison and New Order.
David Rhodes began his career studying sculpture at Goldsmith’s College before turning his hands to a different form of artistic discipline – that of music. He rose very quickly to become a guitarist of international standing, and was asked to join Peter Gabriel in the recording of his third solo album. From there, his relationship with Peter was cemented, and he has written, performed and recorded with Gabriel for over 35 years.
In addition, David has also written and produced music for films including L’Uomo Perfetto, La Gabbianella E Il Gatto (Lucky & Zorba), as well as a varied combination of projects ranging from commercials and computer games to tv series.
Richard’s musical background is of a more formal nature, having studied Music, Performance & Composition at City University and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Following his initial work in recording studios in London, he began working at Real World in 1988. His talent was swiftly realised and he quickly rose to chief engineer, recording and producing many Real World Records artists, as well as working with many other bands that recorded at the studios. After a short break, Richard returned to write, perform and record with Peter Gabriel, beginning with Peter’s album Up.
The successful combination of talents, has led Richard & David to fulfil the role of ‘Special Ops. Team’ for Peter Gabriel. As musical ambassadors for Gabriel, they have worked on projects as diverse as the re-branding of French TV channel ‘Mezzo’ (under the creative direction of Philippe Starck); the Golden Globe nominated soundtrack from the film Rabbit Proof Fence; the music for the millennium show – OVO; the theme to the first HDTV series Starhunter 2300.
Most recently, they have composed and produced the scores for many of the programmes in Discovery’s Atlas HD TV series – including the Emmy Award Winning episode China as well as Australia, South Africa & India – along with National Geographic’s Imax spectacular Sea Monsters.
