“beautiful” – Aled Jones

Founded by songwriters Rob King (acoustic guitar, mandola, bodhran) and Pippa Marland (vocals, saxes, Irish whistles), Carmina‘s music is original, soulful and sophisticated, drawing in Celtic traditional and contemporary strains blended with jazz improvisation.

Although their sound has been compared with Moving Hearts, Joni Mitchell and Van Morrison, Carmina’s music is uniquely their own, yet highly accessible.

Reviewers in the press worldwide have described their music as: “Powerful, original and enigmatic“, “spellbinding“, “spiritual…fresh, sophisticated and accessible“, and “inspirational, vibrant and magical“.

Carmina boast some big names on the British and Irish jazz scene as well as two young stars of Irish traditional music. As well as Rob and Pippa there’s Nic France (drums and percussion); Geoff Castle (keyboards); Diarmaid Moynihan (uilleann pipes, whistles); Chris Haigh (fiddle); David Goodier (double bass) and Brian Morrissey (bodhran, banjo, whistles).

In 2007 their song Blessed Are The Broken won the prestigious Tipperary International Song Of Peace Award.
